Top 2024 Wedding Trends You Won’t Want to Miss

By October 1, 2024No Comments

Weddings may be seeped in tradition, but the specific trends and styles are consistently evolving and changing with the times! There are so many exciting yet difficult decisions to make about what to feature on your big day, so many couples start the process by researching what’s new, fresh, and sure to create a memorable wedding day.

What are the top wedding trends for 2024 and how can you add them to your wedding day? From digital guestbooks to dress codes, there’s something for everyone.

Ready to get your creative juices flowing with ideas to enhance the experience and capture the moments that matter most? Here are the top trends that we see our couples adding to their occasion with great success!

Digital Guest Books

Gone are the days when people scribbled notes of well wishes into a physical guest book. Instead of struggling to decipher messy handwriting, you can modernize your wedding by switching the format of your guestbook!

With audio or video wedding guestbooks, you get a lasting and personalized way to gather heartfelt congratulations, advice, and well wishes in real time. Capture the smiles, laughter, and excitement of your guests in a way that a written-out “congratulations!” simply can’t convey. Plus, you will always have a record of their voice or even their face as they share their congratulations with a digital guest book.

Audio or video guestbooks provide a better experience for guests, too. They won’t have to wait in line to sign your book and can leave a longer message in less time.

Drone Photography and Film

Capturing an overhead view of your venue used to be a near-impossible task for cinematographers. But with the rise of drones to capture wedding footage, these exciting new angles are more commonplace and accessible, giving you the chance to see your wedding day with an eagle-eye view! You can get far more angles for those enduring moments such as a wedding first look

Aerial photography via drone is especially wonderful for outdoor weddings with a sweeping vista that you want to capture as you say your vows.

Teaser Reels

Anyone who spends time on social media knows that short video forms perform best since they’re a quick, impactful way to engage with your friends, family, and loved ones!

Teaser reels, also known as sizzle reels or social clip reels, give you a chance to share moments of your wedding with those who could not be there in person without having to share the intimacy of the full film. Even for those who were in attendance, these short videos can send them back into the moment and their fond memories of the day.

But what exactly is a teaser reel?

Simply put, it is a quick snippet of your longer wedding film that shows all of the highlights of the big day. You might get a glimpse of the vows, the first kiss, the wedding toasts, and an image of your grandma on the dance floor after the champagne starts flowing. Ultimately, a teaser reel is high-energy and fun for social media.

Small, Intimate Weddings

Not every couple dreams of a grand Hollywood wedding with hundreds of guests in attendance. Rather, some would prefer to share this personal event with only their closest friends and family members.

For others, the wedding budget isn’t unlimited and they must scale back the number of attendees to keep the day affordable.

The good news is that smaller weddings can still make a beautiful ceremony and reception – and it’s one of the biggest wedding trends for 2024! More and more couples are limiting the size and scale of their wedding in order to keep it feeling intimate, cozy, and personable.

For those who unfortunately couldn’t make the guest list, they don’t have to feel left out. This is where a wedding film or teaser reel comes in handy so you can share the highlights of the day with everyone!

Dress Codes

From wedding dresses to matching colors or themes for the bridal party, deciding what to ultimately wear on this monumental day is no simple decision for the happy couple!

Generally, though, this dress code is limited to the bridal party. A dress code for the guests is less common – but something we’ve seen as a wedding trend for 2024!

Dress codes for the guest list are a fantastic way to collect stellar pictures and videos during the ceremony and reception. The dress code for guests could include guidelines to help them to avoid looking like part of the bridal party by ruling out certain colors. On the flip side, you might want to encourage everyone to wear a specific color or dress in a unique style like Hawaiian shirts for your luau-themed wedding. For something like a luau-themed wedding, you could even provide leis so those who forgot about the dress code could still get in the spirit!

The stipulations for the dress code can be listed on the invitation so that everyone gets the memo. It probably goes without saying, but not everyone will comply so try to keep realistic expectations.

Documentary Photography and Cinematography

Old-fashioned weddings used to have lots of staged photography as couples posed together for their wedding portraits and then added in their bridal party and families. There are many different types of wedding videography styles, and right now, we’re seeing a surge toward documentary-style photography and cinematography. In other words, couples prefer a cinematographer to follow them and capture candid moments instead.

Make sure you inquire with your cinematographer about how long they will be on-site on the day of the event, whether or not they will travel to all locations, and if they will be ready and waiting to film you in those precious moments.

Better yet, you can let your guests take part in catching candid moments. Leave out disposable cameras for them to snap pictures during the reception, giving you far more angles and chances for the perfect images than you could capture with a professional photography team alone!
